Lax Update..

// July 28th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Uncategorized

Yeah, a lax update in July but it’s not for Jack. I played my second game tonight in a full contact over 40 league. With only 11 guys and 4 middies (yeah, that’s me) it’s a challenge to just run back and forth on that field, never mind trying to learn a sport from scratch at 41. If only I would have bailed on baseball back in high school.

It’s a great time but with football starting next week it’s over until next year. I think I’ll make a serious attempt at being in better shape for next year and play a full season. Maybe even score a few goals?

Lax Update – 1st Loss

// May 23rd, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Uncategorized

We got outplayed today by a very good team.  The kids just didn’t seem to have it, ground balls weren’t getting picked up, the pipes kept getting in the way of our shots, the refs (yeah, I know, but it’s worth mentioning) we’re inconsistent, etc.  Just one of those days.  Jack played one of his better games collecting a handful of groundballs and getting a couple nice clears.  He’s seeing the field better every week and his brain and feet are working together instead of pulling him in two different directions.  The other team was undefeated as well so the loss knocks us into second place in a 22 team division.  We only have one more regular season game, 6/6 up in Plymouth NH.  I think there’s playoffs or a tournament of some kind, I’ll keep you in posted.

Have a great week.

Bizo targets business-to-business niche for ads

// May 21st, 2010 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

Nice article in the SF Business Times on Bizo.  There’s a shot of Russ (left) in some alley.  Maybe it is symbolic of how Bizo is alone in the B2B data space?  I dunno.  Here’s the free version of the article, you have to be a subscriber to get the full version.

Bizo targets business-to-business niche for ads

San Francisco Business Times – by Janet Kornblum

Bizo is one of the hottest Internet startups that most consumers have never heard of. That’s because Bizo, an advertising company, focuses on the business-to-business — not consumer — market.  The San Francisco company said it reaches more than 50 million business people across thousands of websites with its business-to-business targeted ad network.  Bizo uses digital tags — cookies — that are planted in the web browsers of individuals to target business ads to business users. Unlike some advertising companies that surreptitiously plant the tags, Bizo does it openly.  It doesn’t store any personal information, such as name or emails, but it does collect information about the person’s profession and interests so that it’s “highly targeted, but anonymous,” said CEO Russell Glass.

Busy, Busy, Busy…

// July 20th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Uncategorized

What a crazy summer.  I don’t have much time, even now, but here are recent highlights (if you want to call them that, read on and you’ll understand).  The only thing that really matters is we’re all in good shape as of this post.

  1. Jack has diabetes.  About a month or so ago he started drinking and peeing non-stop.  One thing led to another and all of a sudden we’re at the pharmacy getting outfitted for treatments.  All things considered, it’s not the worse medical condition to get.  It requires focused & consistent treatments as well as a high protein/low carb diet, which is good for all of us.  So far he is doing great and handling it well.  If you want more info, give us a call.  He’d appreciate it.
  2. We went to Las Vegas on vacation.  Right after we got out of the hospital with Jack, we jumped on a plane and headed out west.  It was the first time Kelly and Jack visited that part of the country and we had a great time.  Highlights included:  Grand Canyon visit (awesome), Red Rock Canyon (awesome), Lion King Musical (pretty good), sunshine (after 30 days of rain in a row in NH we really needed some of that), Hoover Dam (cool/impressive), won about $250 in random sessions of slots and blackjack, and Nike factory outlet right across the street (which means new watch, sunglasses, socks, and shirts for Lee).  No time to go to far into details, pictures here.
  3. Jude got porcupined.  I’m not sure if that’s a verb or not, but you probably get the picture.  Luckily she didn’t actually try attack it so the quills were all on the outside.  I got most of them out and took her to the vet the next day to get the broken ones out.  She held pretty still while I pulled them out – almost like she thought she did something wrong.  It was very sad.  I ended up with one in my foot and nearly started crying like a baby.

There maybe something I am forgetting but I knew if I didn’t get a post up today I’d just let it go until fall.  Football starts in a couple weeks and we’re looking forward to getting started.

Bye.

Update – Beatles RockBand

More info coming in courtesy of Microsoft’s E3 press conference.  Looks like the  3 part harmony is officially confirmed as well as DLC for every song on every album.  OMG!  Forigve my giddyness but that is fantastic!  Apparently the Harmonix guys played through Day Tripper live on the stage.  For more details:

The Beatles: Rock Band Music And DLC Detailed

Special thanks to Microsoft’s own Frank Mulcahy for bringing this to my attention.  Who needs the summer – September can’t get here fast enough!

Back in NH after a week away

// January 26th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

I spent last week in San Francisco at Bizo HQ.  It was the first time every one in our little company was together in the same room.  Here’s a photo of our new digs.  it’s a great spotbizo office and quite nice for a start up.  There’s a nice park out front and it’s only a few blocks from the best hotel in the area.

Not a whole lot else going on.  Kell is busy with her new job, Jack is playing basketball,flag football, and lacrosse, and I am always working.  Our town put up a neat little ice skating rink and we’ve been spending some time there the last couple of days.  It was actually my first time ever on ice skates with a hockey stick.  Unfortunately, the skates were new and need sharpening.  Nothing like not knowing how to stop on skates and then having skates that can’t stop.  I’ll figure it out next time.  I think I could have been a decent hockey player.  Probably better that I never tried it, we have enough driving around to games as it is, hockey only means earlier mornings and more driving.

Seems like everyone in the family is on facebook now.  I guess that’s a good thing.  Hopefully there’s still time to stop by leebyrne.com.  Sorry it’s not quite as exciting.

Have a great week.

Catch up post for early October

In no particular order, here’s what’s new…

  • Subaru offered to buy my WRX back for more than it was worth and we owed so I now have a 2008 Impreza that doesn’t require premium gasoline or synthetic motor oil. Here’s a picture (not mine but same color).
  • Jack is doing well in school and on the football field.
  • Kelly is enjoying her stay at home mom status and Jack and I like it too. She is signed up to sub in our school district and is looking into going back to school next year for teacher certification. “Mrs. Byrne, can I go to the bathroom?”
  • I got Tiger Woods 2008 and Halo 3 (don’t tell Jack). I highly recommend them both but I’m looking forward to Guitar Hero III in a few weeks.
  • Brother Ben gets married in a couple weeks. Steven is back living at home.
  • Lots of new pictures added to flickr.
  • Grandma Sandy coming to town this weekend to catch Jack’s game.

I probably left some interesting things off but that’s all I have time for now.
