New Dishwasher Fiasco
// January 21st, 2010 // Goings On
So, semi-related to the home improvement post, we just got our new dishwasher. I expected this to be pretty easy, they bring in the new one, disconnect the old one, install the new one, haul away the old one, and we’re back in business. Well, it turns out that NH has some laws that prevent anyone but a licensed plumber from installing anything that needs to be plumbed (in this case it means connecting a water line and a drain line, like a washing machine). The same is true for electricity and an electrician (which makes total sense). In addition, the delivery guys wouldn’t even take the old one because I didn’t disconnect it (as I mentioned, I was under the false pretense that the install guy would do that). Apparently Joe Consumer (me) is just supposed to know this because there’s no mention of it anywhere. It even says “install and haul away” (no charge)on the shipping receipt.
Needless to say, I installed it and now I have to get rid of the old one. Just what I needed in the middle of my work day. I tested it and it appears to be ok but you can’t tell what’s going on under or behind it until your floor starts to rot. Maybe later I’ll discuss the fiasco with the countertop and floor too. No energy to do that now.

What a bunch of BS!
